Safety Architect - AI Tools

Job Summary

As an individual contributor in the Functional Safety Competence Center, you will help make AI-based systems safe, certifiable, and deployable. You will apply your knowledge of emerging AI safety standards to identify risks in NXP’s AI strategies and use your engineering expertise and creativity to develop solutions that preserve business value while reducing safety risk. Your rigor and experience in AI alignment, interpretability, and robustness will enable you to take ownership and deliver solutions at pace.

Your first mission will be to help define, architect, and scale the AI Tool Evaluation activity across multiple business lines. As the activity matures, you will contribute to both evaluation methods and tool development. The resulting expertise will also support innovation activities in which informed risk-taking is encouraged while safeguarding NXP’s interests and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experts across NXP to architect, deploy, and scale AI Tool Evaluation activities within NXP’s development flow.

  • Collaborate with the enablement team to integrate the requirements and guidance of standards such as ISO/PAS 8800 and ISO/TS 22440 into NXP’s development processes.

  • Contribute technical expertise to Safety and AI innovation projects, including projects that evaluate the use of LLMs in corporate environments.

  • Apply model validation, robustness checks, fault injection, and runtime safety mechanisms for corporate AI tools.

  • Provide structured, execution-based feedback and recommendations to the Safety and AI roadmap owner.

Experience

  • At least five years of experience architecting, designing, and validating AI tools in a corporate environment.

  • Practical involvement with or working knowledge of ISO/PAS 8800 and ISO/TS 22440.

  • Deep knowledge of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508; external functional safety certification is an advantage.

  • Proven ability to deliver results across complex, cross-functional projects.

  • Strong collaboration skills, team orientation, and cross-cultural effectiveness.

  • Programming skills in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink are an advantage.

Education
